7-a-side football success for Maidensbridge

The boys U11 football team took part in the Brierley Hill and Dudley School's FA, 7-a-side tournament at Thorns Collegiate Academy tonight. The school has had a team in the final of this competition for the last two years but we were narrowly beaten both times. This year we were hoping to reach the final again and this time go one better.

The competition was the first stage of the national Danone 7-a-side competition and featured a league format to start with. We won both of our games to progress through to the semi-final against a very strong Jesson's primary School. It was a very keenly played game with Maidensbridge progressing with a single goal.

The final then followed against Fairhaven, who had reached the final through a thrilling penalty shoot-out. It was soon very evident that our boys had settled into their stride and there was some really exquisite passing and some battling performances from all of the boys which led to an early goal. This gave the team the confidence that they needed and it resulted in a comprehensive
5-0 win. A special mention should be made that the team as they won the competition without conceding any goals.

At last, the bad luck of the last two years was shaken off and the team ran out as winners. This now means that they will go through to the West Midlands finals in December, representing BHDSFA. Success at that tournament would be a tough ask, but should we be successful it would mean progressing through to the national finals.
