Maidensbridge Duo in action at British Modern Biathlon Championships

Two of our talented pupils were in action this weekend representing the school at The British Modern Biathlon Championships.

The event, which tests the athletes speed, strength and stamina in swimming and running, took place at The Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull with a hundred competing athletes drawn from all corners of the UK.

Amie and Erin, had qualified for this event with their brilliant performances in  the Midlands Championships back in October and have been working hard in recent weeks in training to gain improved performances in the pool and on the track.

Unfortunately, Amie picked up an injury before the start of the 800 metres and had to pull out of the race.  However, she ably focussed her efforts in producing an excellent performance in the pool which was close to her previous personal best over 50 metres. Although Amie was unable to post a complete score on the day, she has a recognised national ranking that demonstrates her talents and her potential.

Erin, despite a difficult start in the 800m, worked hard to produce a commendable personal best time of 2:56.92 and a score of 1273 at the halfway point. This performance was a good result given the chilly conditions and the  high quality of running on display from her fellow competitors. However, Erin turned the tables once she got into the swimming pool, recording a time of 33.36s over 50m and taking off a massive one and a half seconds from her personal best. This superb performance in the pool also meant that she was the fifth fastest swimmer on the day. Overall Erin finished the day with 2537 points which placed her in 13th place overall. Brilliant!

Both Amie and Erin now qualify for the British Schools Championships at Crystal Palace in London in March where they will yet again demonstrate what fine all-round athletes they are.

A big thank you goes to their parents and families who have supported them over the past few weeks and months.
