On Friday Year 4 had their turn learning about First Aid as part of our programme for First Aid. They have had Student First Aid Core skills training from St Johns ambulance. The children have looked at DRABC and have carried out these procedures on their partners in class. The children had to identify the dangers, see if their partner could respond to them, open their airways, check for breathing and then check for bleeding. The children then put their partners into the recovery position using the correct procedures.
We have also covered general discussions on breathing problems, choking, asthma and what a first aid kit should contain.
Finally, the fun part! The children enjoyed learning about bleeding and how to bandage up their casualty.
They have enjoyed learning the basic first aid skills, which has made them more confident if they need to use any in an emergency.
